Tonya Kennon is the Library Director for the City's public library system.
Tonya Kennon says, “My career in libraries began with my desire to secure an after-school job during my senior year of high school. I landed a job as a part-time Library Page in my neighborhood library and witnessed first-hand the transformative power of libraries. I’ve never wanted to do anything else since.” Kennon is Director of the City of Riverside Public Library. In her current role, Kennon is responsible for short and long-term strategic planning, managing financial and human resources, and ensuring that library services, materials, and resources evolve in ways that meet community need.
Her immediate past positions were with the County of Riverside and Tustin Unified School District where she served as County Librarian and Library Services Supervisor, respectively. Kennon is a member of the California Library Association Board of Directors and is Chair of the Inland Library System Board of Directors. Kennon received her B.A. from California Baptist University and her M.L.I.S. from San Jose State University.
